Legal Ombudsman Complaint Procedure

If you have followed our internal complaint procedure and are not satisfied with the outcome, you have the right to escalate your complaint to the Legal Ombudsman.
What is the Legal Ombudsman?
The Legal Ombudsman is an independent organization that helps resolve complaints about legal service providers. They can investigate complaints and recommend appropriate remedies if you have experienced poor service.
When to Contact the Legal Ombudsman
You can contact the Legal Ombudsman if:
- You have completed our internal complaint procedure and are not satisfied with the response.
- You believe we have failed to provide a service that meets the required standards.
- Your complaint falls within the Ombudsman’s jurisdiction.
How to Make a Complaint to the Legal Ombudsman
Eligibility: Ensure that your complaint falls within the scope of the Legal Ombudsman’s services. They can address complaints about:
- Delays in handling your case.
- Failure to communicate effectively.
- Inadequate service or advice.
- Unreasonable costs or fees.

Timeframe: You must contact the Legal Ombudsman within six months of receiving our final response to your complaint. Additionally, your complaint should be made within a year of the problem occurring.
What to do if we cannot resolve your complaint:
The Legal Ombudsman can help you if we are unable to resolve your complaint ourselves. They will look at your complaint independently and it will not affect how we handle your case.
Before accepting a complaint for investigation, the Legal Ombudsman will check that you have tried to resolve your complaint with us first. If you have, then you must take your complaint to the Legal Ombudsman:
- Within six months of receiving a final response to your complaint and
- No more than six years from the date of act/omission; or
- No more than three years from when you should reasonably have known there was cause for complaint.
How to Make a Complaint to the Legal Ombudsman
After submitting your complaint, the Legal Ombudsman will:
- Acknowledge receipt of your complaint.
- Conduct an investigation, which may involve gathering information from both you and Wisemart Solicitors.
- Provide a decision on your complaint, which could include recommendations for remedies, such as refunds or compensation.
